Blessington GAS Feile Peil na nÓg fundraiser RACE NIGHT will be held in Murphy's on Friday 12 June. Please support the fundraising effort for our 48 boys and girls who will represent Blessington on the weekend of 26-28 June 2015.

Feile 2015

Full preparations are already in full swing in what is going to be the biggest team sporting event in Ireland, and Wicklow will play a major role in South Leinster along with Carlow and Wexford hosting the 2015 National Féile Peil na nÓg. It is expected that over 250 U-14 Football teams boys and girls, over 6,500 players altogether will take to the playing fields of the South Leinster in the last weekend in June 2015, which will make it the largest Feile Peil organized since the inception of the competition with teams also coming as far as Scotland, England and America.  This is the 2nd year that the competition will be run on a provincial wide basis allowing a wider expanse of teams to partake. An estimated 30,000 family, friends and supporters will travel with the teams ensuring a busy and bountiful weekend for businesses in over 100 different parishes, towns and hotels in Wicklow, Carlow and Wexford.

Blessington GAA will host a boys and girls team. We won't know who our visiting teams will be until early April. Whoever they are they can be sure that they will be very welcome to our club. Our boys team have represented the county at Féile in 1986, 1996, 2010, 2011 and 2013 (runners up in the Division Final) and our girls represented the county at Féile in 1996,1997 and 1999.

1974 Junior Championship Reunion

On Friday 12th December a reunion of the 1974 Junior Championship winning team took place in Hennessy's Lounge.

It was great to see all the not so young lads turning up. Stories, reminiscences were talked about late into the night and by the end of the night, there was no doubt , that even now the lads would hold their own with our current Senior team!!

For the record the team that took the title was as follows - Mick Doran, Patsy O'Donoghue, Shay Sargent, Andy Doran , John Magee, Pat Quick, Martin Hennessy, Tommy Cullen, Arthur Hennessy, Popsy Finnegan, John Finnegan, Jerry Hennessy, Paddy Murphy, John Coogan, Seamus Breen. Subs- Davy Byrne, Christy Nolan, Paddy Sargent, Des Kennedy & Tom Mc Grath. Team Manager Gerry McIntyre, Selectors Peter Finnegan, Jimmy Hughes Pete Nolan, Paddy Magee & Toddy Hennessy.

That victory was the springboard to the club getting back to Senior status in 1979 and going on to win Championships at Intermediate and Junior level and ultimately A Senior victory in 1983. Many of the team are still involved in the club at Committee level and all are solid supporters of the club. It was also appropriate the in this anniversary year the Club also won the same two cups - The Swan Cup and the Tutty cup. Many thanks to Ronan Hennessy who sponsored some lovely refreshments on the evening.

Blessington GAA U8 Notes

On Tuesday 15th July, 33 of our U8's together with coaches and parents travelled by bus to Croke Park for the Leinster U8 Go Games. We had two teams of 9 playing against St Cuthberts of Meath. Given the numbers we had travelling most kids only played one half so that everyone could get a game. Both Blessington teams played extremely well and won both matches. Before the games the players and coaches viewed one of the dressing rooms. On the way home we stopped in McDonalds to feed all the hungry players. Overall it was a fantastic experience for all concerned. A team photo is available from for any parents who didn't get a copy on the day.
