Blessington Ladies bow out of Club Championship
Sadly our fantastic Blessington Ladies bowed out of the Leinster Junior
Football Club Championship on Sunday last, to a very strong St Helen's team of
Longford. St. Helen's sprung out of the traps scoring five points in the first
six minutes before Blessington got onto the scoreboard with a great goal from
In the following two minutes St Helen's put two goals of their own into
the Blessington net. St Helen's added three more points without reply before
Molly Cullen found the back of the Longford net on the twenty second minute
leaving the score at Blessington 2-0 St Helen's 2-7. Our girls got the next two
points before St Helen's hammered home a third goal in the twenty ninth minute to
leave the score at half time Blessington 2-2 St Helen's 3-7. Blessington had
begun the fight back.! The second half saw our girls come back to take the lead
for the first and only time. With eleven minutes of normal time left our girls
went a point in front 5-7 to 4-9 but unfortunately it only lasted for a
single minute before St Helen's scored goal number five. Blessington ladies never
give up attitude which we knew they had, kept them fighting right till the end,
but sadly it wasn't enough.
Final score Blessington 6-8 St Helen's 6-10, a two
point win for the team from Longford.
Scorers for Blessington: Molly Cullen 2-2, Niamh Carroll: 1-3,
Jacqueline Finnegan 1-0 Shauna Byrne 2-1 and Jess Carroll
Thanks so much girls for a fantastic campaign, you all gave us great
entertainment and good sporting matches throughout the Championship. It was
great to see such a good turn out of supporters today to see you all in action.
To each and every one of you, and the management team we thank you, you did your
club and county proud.
Great week or our U16 and U14 Football teams

The U 14's will meet Tinahely on October 12th.

The U 16's will meet the winners of St Nicholas and Newtown, more details to be announced
Well done lads and best of luck in the finals!
Wicklow Intermediate Champions 2013
What a day we had on Sunday! Our Ladies team faced An Tóchar in the
Intermediate Football Final and had a fantastic win.
An Tóchar got off to the better start and at the half time whistle were
racing ahead on a score of 2-4 to our 1-1. The strong wind proved an advantage
to An Tóchar in the first half and knowing that Blessington would have the wind
kept us still hopeful for the second half. What a fantastic half for Blesso!
Although An Tóchar came fast out of the blocks for the second half scoring the
first point, for Blesso ladies, losing was not in their vocabulary. Blesso then
scored three points without reply to bring the score to 1-5 to 2-4, they were back
within 2 points, could they do this, our hopes were high. An Tóchar fought on
again adding three more points to their score and now it was 1-5 to 2-8, six
points behind again. Nerves were rattling again when 16 yr old Molly Cullen hit
the back of the an Tóchar net for the second time to bring it back to 3 points
2-8 to 2-5.
Another point for Blesso edged them closer again before Molly sealed the
victory to make it a hat trick and final score 3-6 to 2-8. I can't begin to
describe the joy and pride in our girls from the Blessington crowd. They had
done it, against the odds. The girls "never say die" attitude had brought them
success. Well done each and every one of you, a great team effort. Congrats to
all involved girls and management. Thanks to An Tóchar for a great sporting
game. They now progress to the Leinster Championship where they will meet the
winners of the Laois Championship in Blessington on 14th Sept.
