Blessington GAA Club Notes 18 December 2016

These are the final notes for 2016. I hope I have given you an accurate account of what has happened for the past 48 weeks. Thanks to Chris O’Connor who took over for the 4 weeks in June. Notes will return mid Jan 2017. Happy Christmas to you all and here’s to a great 2017 on and off the pitch.

Academy presentation night – Our U8 and U10 hurling and football presentation took place in the Avon Ri on Fri 16 Dec. Kevin Gilmore, Sean Dempsey, Eddie Boylan and Derek Brogan took to the floor to name their teams and players to receive awards. Kevin thanked the long-serving juvenile committee members who are retiring Chairman of 18 years Martin Shannon and Treasurer for 21 years Michael O’Leary. They wished Noreen Keegan Kavanagh the very best as she moves up to Senior Secretary after 8 years of being juvenile secretary. Best wishes were extended to the new chairperson of the juvenile committee Noelle McGarr and to the joint juvenile secretaries Gillian Balfe and Susan Caldwell. On behalf of the kids Jess Brennan was thanked for running the camps and mini all Ireland during the year. The other coaches Aaran Kehoe, Gerry Phibbs, Jimmy Mulhall and Wes Callaghan presented the medals. Michael Sargent thanked everyone for coaching and giving their time so willingly during the year and wished them all the best next year. Michael reiterated Kevin’s wishes to the outgoing and incoming committees for 2017. Award winners for U8 & U10 Presentations on Fri 16 Dec in Avon Ri. Congrats to you all.

U7 Hurling: Player of the Year - Joint winners - Callum Jordan Dempsey/Fionn Whelan. Most Improved - Will O'Connor. Most Dedicated - Kayden McMahon.

U8 Hurling: Player of the Year - Ciara Whelan. Most Improved - Luke Tobin. Most Dedicated - Eimear Doyle.

U9 Hurling: Player of the Year - Max Kehoe. Most Improved - Phillip Hopkins. Most Dedicated - Jake Robbins.

U10 Hurling: Player of the Year - Thomas Walsh. Most Improved - Senan Gardner. Most Dedicated - Oisin O'Neill.

U7 Football: Player of the Year - Oisin Kelly. Most improved - Callum Jordan Dempsey. Most Dedicated - Dylan Callaghan. Skills test winner - Ryan Sargent.

U8 Football: Player of the Year - Jamie O'Toole. Most improved - Tadgh Broe. Most Dedicated - Alfie Callaghan.
Skills test winner - Ciaran Butler.

U9 football: Player of the Year - Ronan Smyth. Most improved - Luke Higgins. Most Dedicated- Charlie Reid.
Skills test winner - Oisin O'Connell.

U10 football: Player of the Year - Frankie Kerr Gibbons. Most Improved - Aaron Keogh. Most Dedicated - Jack Byrne. Skills test winner - Dylan Keogh.

Leinster GAA Cross County U13 and U15 Football – Leinster GAA are organising a cross county football blitz which will be 5 group games and a final. These games will be held on Saturdays 28 Jan, 4, 11, 25 Feb and 11, 25 March. Coaches will be in contact.

Date for your diary – The Blessington GAA Social evening will be held one week earlier than planned due to another booking in Avon Ri on last Fri in Jan. It will now be held on Fri 20 Jan. Music by Toss and Turn. Keep the date free. The adult awards for 2016 will be presented on the night.

9th Ray Daniels Memorial Cup - Blessington GAA v Blessington AFC match will be held in Blessington GAA Astro on Monday 26 December (St Stephen’s Day) at 10am. Join us for the annual soccer match in memory of our friend Ray. Throughout his life, Ray gave 100% commitment and dedication to both clubs and put in countless memorable performances. We encourage all supporters to make their way to Blessington GAA grounds and you can be sure of action, fun and lots of tough battles. K.O. 10am and this will be followed by the Over 35’s Blessington GAA v Blessington AFC. Light refreshments will be provided after both games in Murphys.

Strictly Blessington Take 2 – The dancers now have their sponsor cards and tickets for anyone who wishes to give tickets as a Christmas gift. Any funds raised will go towards the development of the club and hopefully this will include a new clubhouse in the very near future. Anyone wishing to dance and help raise funds for the club can contact Catherine Behan, Noelle McGarr, Noreen Keegan Kavanagh, Lilly Sargent, Lisa Tobin or Tara Richardson.
